On the 14th and 15th of May 2024, Linz, Austria, became a hub for climate leadership as 27 leaders from across seven EU countries converged for a study visit focused on driving the local energy transition.
This visit, hosted by the OÖ Energiesparverband, provided an invaluable platform for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and fostering collaboration among municipalities and energy agencies committed to achieving climate neutrality.
The primary objectives of the study visit were multifaceted, aiming to inspire and equip climate leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to advance their energy transition efforts. Key goals included:
Day One: Exchange and Exploration
The visit commenced on 14 May with a series of interactive exchange sessions. Leaders from various municipalities presented their projects and solutions, sharing the strategies they have employed to overcome challenges and drive the energy transition in their regions. These sessions were not only informative but also highly interactive, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas.
After lunch, participants embarked on a bus tour to visit pioneer municipalities in Upper Austria. These municipalities have been at the forefront of implementing energy transition projects, with a particular focus on renewable heating and the high-performance renovation of public buildings. Meeting with local mayors and stakeholders provided participants with practical insights into the planning, financing, and implementation of these initiatives.
The day concluded with a networking dinner, offering a more informal setting for participants to continue their discussions and build relationships.
Day Two: Deepening the Dialogue
The second day began with a continuation of the interactive exchange session. The focus shifted towards regional programmes and initiatives, such as the renewable heating transition and measures against energy poverty, that support the local energy transition in Upper Austria.
The morning’s agenda also included group work, where participants delved deeper into key topics of interest. These sessions were designed to foster a more focused discussion on specific challenges and opportunities, encouraging participants to brainstorm solutions and share experiences.
